Neuroscience Institute

Combined with the award-winning clinical resources of CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System, the Neuroscience Institute includes state-of-the-art patient care facilities and the latest in surgical and non-surgical treatment technologies.

Dedicated Neurological Care

Neurologists are physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the central nervous system, which includes the brain, the spinal cord and the nerves. They possess expert knowledge of the neurological structures of the body, which allows them to diagnose, localize and treat an array of disorders that affect the nervous system. A subspecialty of neurology – neuromuscular disorders – encompasses the science, evaluation and management of disorders of the peripheral nerves, neuromuscular junctions and muscles.

At CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Neuroscience Institute, our affiliated physicians use advanced techniques and technology to treat complex neurological conditions. We have special expertise in stroke, epilepsy, headaches, neuromuscular disorders, multiple sclerosis, movement disorders, pediatric neurology and intraoperative monitoring.

Comprehensive Care for All

Patients who choose the Neuroscience Institute for their care find an integrated approach to disease management. The Institute’s team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, pain medicine specialists and physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists work closely together to provide care using a clinically integrated approach. Throughout diagnosis and treatment, we stay focused on our patients’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

Our Stroke Program has held the Joint Commission’s Disease Specific Certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center since 2008. The certification guarantees our patients a consistently high level of quality, based on effective data-driven performance improvement that reduces the risk of error and improves stroke outcomes.

Award-Winning Stroke Program

The Stroke Program has also received the American Heart Association’s Get With the Guidelines Gold Award, one of the highest recognitions a hospital can achieve for quality improvement programs that show measurable results in stroke outcomes. In addition, the State of Texas has designated CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Healthcare System as a Comprehensive Stroke Center in the East Texas region. Hospitals that receive the designation work in partnership with local emergency medical services to ensure timely care for stroke patients, reduce the burden of stroke and improve survival outcomes.

Advanced Facility and Care

Our 12-bed Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit offers advanced monitoring and treatment for patients with neurological diseases and brain injuries. A new six-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit ensures that patients with seizures receive state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment. A neurohospitalist – a hospital-based inpatient neurologist specialty trained in vascular neurology – ensures extra attention and high-quality care for our patients.

Treatment of new patients at the Neuroscience Institute always starts with the most conservative approach. Beginning with the initial visit, we stay focused on evidence-based medicine that guides us toward the best possible outcomes and improves the quality of life of our patients.
