Advanced treatment for heart health
The Louis & Peaches Owen Heart Hospital also provides some of the most advanced and dedicated treatment options for cardiovascular conditions, including:
Open heart surgery
Our heart surgery suites provide the latest in surgical technology for traditional open heart, minimally invasive and robotic procedures. Our highly trained nurses and technicians support our skilled team of cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists and other cardiac specialists.
Robotic surgery
As home to three da Vinci Robotic Surgical Systems®, including the new S model made exclusively for cardiac applications, the Louis & Peaches Owen Heart Hospital offers advanced surgical technology available at few facilities in the world. Patients who undergo robot-assisted cardiac bypass surgery no longer have their chest cut open, but instead have a three- to five-inch incision. There is less pain, fewer stitches and quicker recovery, as well as lower risk of complications and infection.
Cardiac catheterization
This procedure examines blood flow to the heart and tests how well the heart is pumping. It can also measure blood pressure within the heart and how much oxygen is in the blood. Cardiac catheterization is a common, relatively painless, nonsurgical procedure that can help your physician diagnose, and in some cases, treat heart disease.
Electrophysiology mapping
Using advanced imaging and diagnostic catheter technology, electrophysiologists create a 3-D "map" of the electrical activity within the patient’s heart to pinpoint the source of an irregular heartbeat. It can then be treated through ablation, ICD or medication. (see below)
Ablation
This is a therapeutic procedure performed via surgery or minimally invasive catheterization that destroys targeted heart tissue, blocking or eliminating irregular heartbeats.
Implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD)
An internal defibrillator the size of a small pager is implanted to treat abnormal heart rhythms.
Pacemaker
An implanted electronic device used to stabilize or stimulate the heart's rhythm. Cardiac Rehabilitation: Cardiac rehab is a medically supervised, two-phase program to treat heart disease. The first phase begins while the patient is in the hospital and the second phase is an outpatient exercise and education program.
