Women With Heart To Celebrate Two Smith County Women

TYLER, TX - In recognition of February as National Heart Month, Louis and Peaches Owen Heart Hospital at Trinity Mother Frances and KYTX CBS 19 are preparing to celebrate two remarkable Smith County women who have battled and conquered, cardiac disease with the help of Trinity Mother Frances Louis and Peaches Owen Heart Hospital and exude a spirit that has inspired others.

Throughout the month of November, TMFHC and KYTX CBS 19 received nominations and the two women chosen to represent Smith County are Dayna Cooper and Glenda Watson. Please read a short story about their triumphs over heart disease below.

According to statistics from the American Heart Association, heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases cause approximately half of all deaths in American women and one out of three women over age 65 has some form of heart disease. No longer is it considered a disease suffered only by men. We hope you will help us spread the word about our ‘Women With Heart’ event to those in your community.

Ms. Cooper and and Ms. Watson will be honored during a special evening of food, fellowship, and learning Tuesday, February 10, 5:30 p.m. at Green Acres Baptist Church. The dinner is free and open to the public. It will educate attendees about the risks for heart disease, and feature door prizes and informational booths. Seating is limited; please call (903) 606-DOCS to reserve your spot today.

Dayna Cooper

I am from Tyler. I am probably a lot like you . . . except I have gone through stage four breast cancer, total knee replacement and heart valve replacement. Whew! At age 52, I found out I needed valve replacement surgery due to a congenital defect. But it did not stop me! I was only in the hospital for 48 hours. After the minimally invasive surgery, I was back to work in no time. The nurses, heart team, and cardiac rehab team at Trinity Mother Frances were dedicated and compassionate. As soon as I retire, I plan to volunteer at the Louis and Peaches Owen Heart Hospital out of my deep gratitude. Just like you, I have hopes. I have dreams. I have heart!

Glenda Watson

I am probably a lot like you. I am a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a sister from Tyler. My double bypass surgery was 10 years ago and I made a wonderful recovery. In fact, right in the recovery room, I promised God that I would start singing for him again. Faith was a big part of my recovery and I love how Trinity Mother Frances was founded in faith. Now, I sing in the church choir every week. I love it! My heart problem did not stop me! My husband and I operate a Christmas tree farm. We try to keep the tradition of Christ in Christmas on our farm and in our lives. Just like you, I have hopes. I have dreams. I have heart!
