About Flight For Life

Flight For Life

Flight For Life is a critical care air medical transport service that provides helicopter transportation for patients needing critical care service within a 350-mile radius from Tyler, Texas. Flight For Life serves over 100,000 square miles of Northeast Texas, Western Louisiana, and Southern Oklahoma and currently operates three bases across this service area. Flight For Life helicopters are located in Palestine, Winnsboro, and Gregg Counties, and the Flight For Life fixed-wing aircraft is located in Tyler to provide rapid access to our coverage area. Our team includes a pilot, flight nurse and a flight paramedic who are specially trained in adult, pediatric and critical care. In December of 1985, the Flight For Life air medical program was born when CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances recognized a need for rapid transport, in a critical care environment, of catastrophically ill and injured patients from isolated rural medical facilities and EMS agencies to more advanced care centers such as CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital.

Today, Flight For Life transports critically ill and injured patients to Tyler’s busiest Emergency Care Center at CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital – Tyler, seeing over 75,000 patients per year. CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital – Tyler is a licensed 402-bed acute care facility that includes a Trauma Center accredited by the American College of Surgeons, with 50 ICU beds, and serves as a regional referral center for Cardiac, Neurological, Obstetrical, Gynecological, Neonatal and Hyperbaric Oxygen Services.

Flight For Life transports over 1,000 patients each year and, when requested, Flight For Life also assists medical helicopter programs in Dallas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and other nearby areas.

When needed, local law enforcement also enlists the help of Flight For Life during search missions.

Aviation, Airframe and Powerplant maintenance services are provided and operated by Air Methods Corporation of Englewood, Colorado: FAA air carrier certificate # QMLA253U.
