Visitation Guidelines

Trinity Mother Frances supports the patient’s right to choose their own visitors and determine the support system that best protects the privacy and safety of our patients while increasing the healing process. Family members and support persons play a vital role in the health and well being of our patients and are welcome 24 hours a day. However, some restrictions to visitation may occur based on clinically appropriate situations.

• Visitation during a medical and/or surgical procedure if clinically necessary
• When there may be infection control issues (children or adult visitors who are sick or have fever that may pose a risk to health care works and patients, or infectious patients that may pose a risk to visitors)
• When visitors may interfere with the care or healing of other patients, such as patients in a semi-private room setting
• Disruptive or violent behavior of a visitor, including behavior that presents a direct risk or threat to patients, staff or others in the immediate environment
• A court order limiting or restraining contact
• Substance abuse treatment protocols that restrict visitation
• A patient or legal guardian (if patient is under age or becomes incapacitated) requests restricted visitation
• A crisis or special situation is identified by hospital administration
• The physical space surrounding the patient’s care area is limited and therefore limits the number of visitors
• Individuals with a positive criminal background screen may not be permitted in secured areas of the hospital (i.e. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Unit)
• Our Mother/Baby and Pediatric floors are secure patient areas, which means they remain locked at all times. All visitors are required to present a picture ID and be signed in at the reception desk located at the front of the unit OR they may have to use the phone located outside of the unit for entry assistance. Once the door has been unlocked, they will be able to enter the unit and then they must be signed in at the nurse’s station. If visitors do not have a picture ID, we will ask the patient’s family for permission for them to visit. All visitors must use the waiting room located near the public elevators on 5 Dawson Mother Baby Unit. Children are welcome to visit, but must be accompanied by an adult.
• Children under age 12 who are visiting are to be supervised by an adult other than the patient at all times. Children may not be left in the care of the patient. For their safety, children are not to be left unattended in lobbies, patient rooms or waiting areas. Children who are sick or have fever are discouraged from visiting.

For our patient’s well-being, we ask visitors to please use good judgment and avoid visiting the hospital if you think you may be unwell. Individuals should not visit if they exhibit any of the following:

• Signs & symptoms of the flu or flu-like illness:
o Fever >100º with one (1) of the following:
    - Runny Nose
    - Cough
    - Sore throat
• Upper respiratory infection
• Nausea/Vomiting/Diarrhea
• Fever within the last 24 hours

Please do your part to reduce the spread of germs that you make you and others sick, whether you are at home or visiting someone in the hospital.
