STARS Program Participants

Respite Care Program

Who: Individuals age 14 and older

What: Be a “buddy” to one assigned special needs child and give family members a time to refresh, restore and renew. Our Respite Care Program allows families with a special needs child time to enjoy new activities and favorite

pastimes, and an opportunity to maintain stability in their lives. You will get to spend precious time with your “buddy” playing, reading, making crafts or just talking.

When:
First (1st) Saturday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in Longview
Second (2nd) Saturday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in Hawkins
Third (3rd) Saturday of every month from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in Tyler

Reach Out and Read

Who: Individuals 14 and older

What: Promote literacy, the love for books and a lifetime of learning by reading to children.

When: Monday – Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. / Friday 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Student STARS Program

Students Taking Action to Reach Success

Students Taking Action to Reach Success Program

Who: High School students, ages 15 to 18

What: This program is a premier educational opportunity and is designed to introduce students to a variety of health care career options and provide an opportunity to job shadow. STARS attend special presentations by Trinity Mother Frances health care professionals who aim to provide insight in to health care careers and educational requirements for those areas. STARS are selected based on personal career essays, letters of recommendation, interviews and previous volunteer experience at Trinity Mother Frances. When: Four (4) weeks in either June or July. Student may select one full day or one half day, once a week.

Job Shadowing Program

Who: High school students, ages 15 and older OR college students required to have volunteer or observation hours in a healthcare setting.

What: This program is designed for students needing volunteer or observation hours in order to complete a class or apply to a healthcare program. Job shadowing increases career awareness and reinforces the link between classroom learning and work requirements. Students experience the various areas of the medical field, see occupational skills in practice and learn the value of professional training firsthand.
