Funded Programs - Children's Miracle Network Hospitals

Donations to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals support many vital pediatric services provided throughout CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System in both clinic and hospital settings. In addition to funding purchase of specialized pediatric equipment, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals funds pediatric services and education for various TMFHS departments. Children's Miracle Network Hospitals support helps our physicians and staff provide the best care possible to children throughout the region.

The Child Life Program

Children's Miracle Network Program

In 2000, CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital became the first hospital in east Texas to implement a Child Life Program. A full-time certified Child Life Specialist was hired to assist hospitalized pediatric patients with their non-medical needs. Activities include play therapy, which aids in healing and coping, and Zaadie dolls to help explain medical procedures. The main goal of the Child Life Program is to ease the stress and anxiety of children while in the health care setting.

The Child Life Program, funded by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, helps meet the unique needs of hospitalized children. We know that caring for children is a different challenge, because they are not miniature adults, but patients with special needs. Our Child Life Specialist helps provide ways to minimize the anxiety experienced by children when they are hospitalized, as well as provide guidance to assure normal growth and development.

The Special Needs ProgramSpecial Needs Program

The Special Needs Program, funded by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals donations, was established to meet the unique health care needs of medically fragile children in the east Texas area. Prior to 1996, families had to travel to Dallas or Shreveport to receive care for children who required special health care services. Today, CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic pediatricians and staff provide a comprehensive program to monitor all aspects of care for these children.

Services include well child check-ups, nutritional guidance, physical therapy, social work, 24-hour medical availability, parent support group, Respite Care for families and caregivers and a patient advocate to monitor the child’s care.

The Special Needs Program believes that  all children should have access to health care services that are family-centered, continuous, comprehensive, coordinated, compassionate and culturally competent.

It is the goal of the program’s physicians and staff to provide that specialized and individualized care.
