Mother Frances Hospital Tyler Named One of the Nation's 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics

TYLER – Mother Frances Hospital Tyler was today named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals® by Truven Health AnalyticsTM, a leading provider of data-driven analytics and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare.

“The 2016 100 Top Hospitals award winners represent the highest national standards in hospital care and management. They set the benchmarks for peers around the country to follow,” said Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president at Truven Health Analytics. “Hospitals in three out of the five report groups actually reduced overall expense year over year, while improving patient outcomes – exactly the results that the entire industry hopes to attain.”

The study shows that if all hospitals in the U.S. performed at the level of this year's winners:

  • More than 104,000 additional lives could be saved.
  • Nearly 48,400 additional patients could be complication free.
  • $2 billion in inpatient costs could be saved.
  • The average patient stay would decrease by half a day.

The Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals® study identifies hospitals and leadership teams that provide the highest level of value to their communities, based on a national balanced scorecard measuring overall organizational performance across 11 key analytic measures including patient care, operational efficiency, and financial stability. The study has been conducted annually since 1993. This is the sixth time Mother Frances Hospital Tyler has been recognized with this honor.

“We are pleased to celebrate the fact that we’ve been able to achieve a tremendous milestone like this award,” said John McGreevy, Chief Executive Officer, Mother Frances Hospital Tyler and the Louis and Peaches Owen Heart Hospital. “Our designation as a Truven 100 Top Hospital® is an incredible accomplishment, and I am proud of our Trinity Clinic providers and the entire Trinity Mother Frances team who made this a reality. I believe our distinguished providers are truly first class. They put patient care, quality and service before all else.”

To conduct the 100 Top Hospitals study, Truven Health researchers evaluated close to 3,000 short-term, acute-care, nonfederal hospitals. 100 Top Hospitals researchers use risk-adjusted methodologies to analyze public information — Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MEDPAR) data, and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the CMS Hospital Compare reports. Hospitals do not apply, and winners do not pay to market this honor. Mother Frances has earned this award previously in 2006, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2014 before this our sixth honor.

“Once again, the effort and initiative of the entire Trinity Mother Frances team on behalf of our patients has been rewarded by Truven, and we couldn’t be prouder,” said Ray Thompson, FACHE, Chief Operating Officer, Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics. “This award is another step on our iCARE. Journey to Excellence, and each year our entire team works diligently with the goal of improving patient experience. We believe that by focusing on quality and constantly evaluating and improving performance, we will continue to offer the very best care for our patients and will continue to be recognized as a leader in healthcare for generations to come.”

In January, Trinity Mother Frances signed a letter of intent to become part of CHRISTUS Health, an international, faith-based, not-for-profit health system headquartered in Irving, Texas.

The winning hospitals were announced in the February 28, 2016, edition of Modern Healthcare magazine.
