CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System First to Offer On-Site Surgical Instrument Maintenance in East Texas

TYLER – CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System is proud to announce the best-in-class opportunity for maintenance and repair of surgical instrumentation that has been added to the award-winning Surgical Services Department. As a result of a partnership with Stryker Procare, CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System is the first health care facility in East Texas to offer an on-site stainless surgical instrument repair lab that represents the leading edge of technology and innovation in Surgical Services.

CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital - Tyler is currently the top-ranked hospital in Texas for Overall Surgical Care for Patient Safety and General Surgery Patient Safety by CareChex®. This opportunity enables the organization to further enhance the award-winning quality of care provided to patients, as well as improve surgeon satisfaction and engagement.

“A proper, proactive maintenance plan for all surgical instrumentation is critical to maximize their lifespan while ensuring optimized functioning,” said Angela Coats, Director Surgical Services for CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System. “With the on-site lab, we have increased our ability to manage our inventory and address surgeon needs real time even more effectively. Additionally, the new lab enables customized, full-time preventive maintenance based on actual set usage. Overall, this means even faster, more direct and more complete service – which is fantastic for our patients.”

“With implementation of the onsite lab there will be a full-time certified instrument repair specialist, as well as 10 onsite specialists to align the maintenance schedule with the critical needs of the health System,” said Coats. “Through this offering, we have been able to better manage our inventory, control costs, reduce the downtime of instrument sets and improve the efficiency between the Sterile Processing Department and the Operating Room. As always, our focus is on identifying processes that enable us to maintain the high quality of care we provide for our patients. Essentially, the on-site lab is a new development in the field that is changing the industry for the better and revamping the way we can operate.”
