Pat Herd Women's Center Celebrates Anniversary

TYLER, TX –The Trinity Mother Frances Foundation Women’s Board is celebrating the first anniversary of the Pat Herd Women’s Center this week. The center is named for the late Pat Herd, a wonderfully caring and philanthropic woman, whose passing moved her family to continue her legacy. Michael Herd, her grandson and the chair of the Bob L. Herd Foundation, worked with his family and Mother Frances Hospital to fulfill the campaign for a new floor focused on the special needs of women. “My grandmother was concerned about who would care for the caregivers in families when there are too ill to care for themselves. The Pat Herd Women’s Center is a fitting legacy for a woman who believed in equal rights for women, strong communities, education, and access to healthcare,” said Mr. Herd. The Pat Herd Women’s Center is located on the grounds of Mother Frances Hospital Tyler and features 27 state-of-the-art women’s health and recovery suites.

“We have been incredibly pleased with the Pat Herd Women’s Center over the past year and how it has made a positive impact on the more than 230 women who have received care here after giving birth,” said Felicia Adams, Divisional Director, Women’s and Children’s Services, Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics. “This center is important in our journey to provide the best possible care for women and babies, ensuring they receive that care in a warm, home-like environment. We have received nothing but positive comments from patients during this first year, and our success has been built on patient satisfaction scores that have increased to the 90th percentile.”

For 75 years, Trinity Mother Frances has been caring for women, providing them a place of comfort, healing, encouragement and exceptional medical care. Generations of East Texans have been born and nurtured at Mother Frances Hospital Tyler. A key part of those efforts have come from the Women’s Board of Trinity Mother Frances Foundation – a dedication group of women from the community with a passion for women’s health issues – who tirelessly worked to raise funds from a multitude of constituents, foundations, and generous donors, to fully fund the Pat Herd Women’s Center. The primary fundraiser organized by the Women’s Board is the Pearls and Promises Gala, held annually in April. This will be the Tenth year of the event and it will be April 17, at Willow Brook Country Club.
“We are extremely happy to be able to help bring the highest level of care and services to the women of our community though the gracious contributions from caring families like the Herds,” said Mary Elizabeth Jackson, President of the Trinity Mother Frances Foundation. “We opened one year ago after concluding a two-year capital campaign that also employed the proceeds from Pearls and Promises, but this would not have been possible without a very special gift from the Herd family.”
“The Women’s Board is honored to have been able to help provide these beautiful facilities for our community,” said Mary Lauren Faulkner, president of the Women’s Board. “Honoring Pat Herd and her life of caring for others was simply a great way to both recognize her and what she stood for, particularly for women, and to bring to our community such a calm and relaxing atmosphere for women to recover, rest, and recuperate at Mother Frances Hospital.”
