Vascular Screening

At Trinity Mother Frances, keeping families healthy is our first priority. And because peripheral vascular disease affects about 1 in 20 people over age 50, we want to prevent this from happening to you. We offer a complete vascular screening using ultrasound technology to evaluate potential health problems.  The screening includes carotid artery, abdominal aortic aneurysm and peripheral vascular disease, for $139.

Risk factors for vascular disease include:

  • increasing age
  • prior stroke
  • high blood pressure
  • cigarette smoking
  • diabetes mellitus
  • excessive alcohol consumption
  • high cholesterol and lipids
  • physical inactivity
  • being overweight or obese

What is a carotid artery screening?

This screening visualizes the build up of fatty plaque in the carotid arteries which can cause a stroke.  A registered vascular technologist applies gel on the neck over the carotid arteries. A transducer is placed on the neck to visualize the carotid artery and the degree of blockage, if any, can be determined.

What is an abdominal aortic aneurysm screening?

This screening visualizes an aneurysm (enlargement) of the abdominal aorta that could lead to rupture. To perform this exam, the technologist applies gel on the abdomen and uses a transducer to visualize and measure the aorta.

What is the peripheral artery disease screening?

This screening is for peripheral arterial disease in the lower extremities. This may indicate blockages in the arteries, as well as other vascular diseases. To perform this exam, blood pressure cuffs are placed on the arms and ankles.

Important information about this screening:

The screening must be paid for at the time of service by cash, check or credit/debit card. Most insurance companies do not cover this screening.  Participants who wish to submit the cost of the screening to their insurance must pay for the screening and then file for reimbursement from their insurance company on their own.

All examinations will be interpreted by a vascular surgeon. All information and screening results will be mailed directly to the patient, with an extra copy to share with their physician. In the case of a life-threatening result, the patient and their physician will immediately be notified.

For more information or to schedule your screening, please call (903) 525-1400.
