Process

1) Determine there is a Need

  • Must be physician driven
  • Derived from verbal request, formal survey, M&M data, new legislation, licensure requirements, new procedure/therapy, etc.
  • Documentation of multiple sources is preferred

2) Notify CME Committee of the Need

  • Contact a CME Committee Member
  • Request CME Activity Packet from Lori Booher (903) 531-5761 or booherl@tmfhs.org

3) Receive Preliminary CME Committee Approval for the Activity

4) Form a Planning Committee

  • Must be physician driven with active participation
  • Activity facilitator responsible for submitting completed paperwork to CME Director in a timely manner
  • CME 8.0 Policy & Procedure dictates timeline for approval
  • Submit CME Activity Planning Worksheet
  • Assign Tasks & Timeline
  • Determine budget

5) Communicate regularly with CME Committee on Progress

  • Submit planning meeting minutes to CME Director
  • Submit paperwork when received or completed

6) Determine Target Audience

  • Physicians primary audience, identify specialties
  • Other healthcare professionals when appropriate

7) Define Objectives

  • Describe learning outcomes in terms of physician performance or patient health.
  • List overall objectives or objectives specific to multiple topics presented

8) Determine Educational Content & Method

  • Lecture, panel discussion, workshop, etc.
  • Submit agenda
  • Develop handouts

9) Designate Faculty Speakers

  • Experts in their field: local, regional, national
  • Send speaker letters with stated objectives
  • Obtain curriculum vitae/resume
  • Obtain speaker disclosure information
  • Confirm topic, location, date, time
  • Clarify honorarium and travel arrangements

10) Promotional Materials
MUST INCLUDE:

  • Title & topics presented
  • Statement of specific educational objectives
  • Target audience
  • Prerequisites for attendance, if any
  • Names & credentials of activity faculty
  • Acknowledgement of commercial support
  • Includes verbatim this statement:

The Trinity Mother Frances (TMF) is accredited by the Texas Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Trinity Mother Frances designates this educational activity for a maximum of one (1) AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) ™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

11) Commercial Support

  • Signed agreement submitted to CME Director
  • Receipt of funding, gifts-in-kind
  • Confirm expectations

12) Final CME Committee Approval for Activity

13) Distribute Promotional Materials

  • Keep several copies for file, submit to CME Director

14) Activity Presented

  • Speaker disclosure info
  • Acknowledgement of commercial support
  • No solicitation during activity

15) Activity Summary & Paperwork Submitted at Next CME Committee Meeting

  • attendance roster
  • handouts
  • evaluations
  • evaluation summary
