TRINITY MOTHER FRANCES VASCULAR INSTITUTE OFFERS NEW LASER TREATMENT FOR VARICOSE VEINS

TYLER, TX -- Approximately 25 percent of all women and 15 percent of all men suffer from greater saphenous vein reflux, commonly known as varicose veins. The traditional surgical treatment for the condition was stripping and ligation, a solution many patients found very painful, and one that required up to six weeks of recovery time. Now, Trinity Clinic vascular surgeons are offering a minimally-invasive laser vein treatment called VenaCure.

“Using today’s most advanced medical laser technology, VenaCure makes varicose veins vanish without all the disadvantages of older treatments,” said Todd D. Bengtson, MD, Trinity Mother Frances Vascular Surgeon. “It is a quick, effective outpatient procedure that involves minimal discomfort. After treatment, a patient can simply walk out of the office and resume normal activities immediately.”

The treatment consists of inserting a laser fiber into the vein through a tiny puncture site. A laser energizes the fiber as it is withdrawn from the vein. Energy emitted from the tip of the fiber causes only the treated vein to close, while the body automatically routes the blood to other healthy veins.

“This is a varicose vein treatment that’s perfect for today’s busy lifestyles,” said Kent P. Webb, MD, Trinity Mother Frances Vascular Surgeon. “Patients can look and feel better almost immediately and with very little inconvenience. They don’t have to disrupt their normal schedules. It is very rewarding when advancements in medical technology enable us to provide an alternative that’s far superior to older treatments.”

“The Trinity Mother Frances Vascular Institute is always looking for new treatment options for our patients that provide faster recovery times and less pain. VenaCure offers both,” said Todd P. Smith, MD, Trinity Mother Frances Vascular Surgeon.

Doctors Bengtson, Webb and Smith of the Trinity Mother Frances Vascular Institute are the only board-certified vascular surgeons in east Texas with practices solely dedicated to both medical and surgical vascular treatment. They are licensed to perform endovascular surgery including angioplasty and stenting, endovascular aneurysm repair and minimally invasive venous surgery. Cosmetic procedures for conditions such as varicose and spider veins can also be performed.
